My Story
Counselling isn’t just a career for me—it’s a space I’ve earned my way into through lived experience, ongoing training, and a deep belief in human resilience.
My life began with a sense of belonging. I am a child who was adopted at birth into a family that has always made me feel deeply accepted and loved. That experience shaped my view of identity; not as something fixed, but as something we grow into over time, with care and support. From a young age, I was curious and drawn to the emotional layers beneath people’s stories. I didn’t arrive at counselling immediately; my path included detours and moments of reckoning that eventually fuelled my interest in how people make meaning in the aftermath of disruption.
My early work at Headway Gauteng was a turning point. Working with survivors of brain injuries and their families taught me to sit with uncertainty and to appreciate the courage it takes to build a life after a diagnosis. Since then, I’ve continued to work with acquired disability, palliative care, trauma, and identity development.
Just over a year ago, this work became deeply personal. I lost my father to cancer only a month after his diagnosis. His passing was transformative; it moved beyond the theoretical and enhanced it with a raw, in-depth appreciation for the work required in grief. It changed how I see the world and reinforced my belief that we cannot separate our mental health from our physical and clinical realities.
This realisation pushed me to experience more professionally. I spent time working within the employee wellness space, which further encouraged my desire to meld physical and mental health more directly. To better serve this "whole-health" philosophy, I have returned to further academic pursuits that bridge these fields. To this aim, my practice has moved to after-hours and select availabilities throughout the week; allowing me to remain dedicated to this integrated path while giving my clients my full, focused presence.
I hold a Bachelor of Psychology (Honours) cum laude and have completed postgraduate training in Palliative Care (UCT), alongside training in modalities like BWRT, DBT, Career Counselling, and Psychometrics. However, I don’t believe in a "one-size-fits-all" approach. My practice is eclectic and evidence-informed, grounded in frameworks such as ACT, SFBT, Narrative approaches, and Polyvagal Theory. What that means in practice is that I tailor each session to the person in front of me, based on ongoing assessment and our collaboration.
Whether I’m working with someone facing grief, a career crossroads, or a life transition that feels hard to name, my aim is always to offer a safe space, steadiness, and reflection.
Thank you for taking the time to learn more about my journey. If you feel I might be the right fit for yours, I’d be honoured to walk a part of the road with you.
